beauty from inside out

As a first generation American whose parents emigrated from Ireland to the U.S, where her mother's family came from County Donegal and her father's hailed from County Carlow, native New Yorker Wini McBride's Irish roots remain a constant companion and source of inspiration.  In fact her mother, Catherine McBride is not only the namesake of McBride Beauty, but also the inspiration.

Wini's own milky soft complexion is a credit to Catherine McBride.  Genetics, of course, play a hand in her visage, but it was her mother's Irish home recipes and remedies that she turned to in creating a line of beauty products that she began to sell among her friends in the fashion industry, including maverick retailer Steven Alan.

"While my mother swore by nettle leaf or buttermilk for skin irritations, and raw  potato rubbed on sores and bruises, I needed to apply the same idea to a modern skincare line that, while primitive in inspiration, is truly modern in its natural application.  I turned to raw ingredients for my first collection: a wheat germ and avocado night cream, a rosewater and neem day cream, a grapefruit and aloe facial toner, a cucumber and aloe body lotion and a simple, pure and unadulterated soy and coconut cleansing bar," says Burkeman.  "I want the foundation of my line to function as tried, true and tested, and as pure and natural as possible.  I think my mom would be proud."

Now, after launching quietly in a handful of New York boutiques, McBride Beauty is stepping onto the national and international stage as the bathroom amenities provider for Robert DeNiro and Ira Drukier's new Greenwich hotel in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood.
